A Friend I met

Peace of holding hands

Almost a decade later, a friend I met,
She wasn't the same anymore,
Dunk in sorrow, grief her eyes in deep,
Pale she looked and lost she was!

Just 23 years, and the world had come to a pause,
Who is my well-wisher?
Questioning herself and everyone around,
Stay strong, you're a fighter. How are you?
Was all she could hear.

Raised by a single woman who gave her life,
Never married, she poured all her love on that child,
Unshaken by society's beliefs, she raised her alone,
Holding hands from school till college,
She faced that harsh world under her shadow,
Brought to life by someone,
And taught to lead life by her,
Essence of parenthood was with her.

Visualising her daughter getting married,
Planning everything she would do as her parents,
Ranting over gossip for long hours,
Those warm conversations and hugs,
All her heart had synced in for life.

That afternoon, the duo planned a vacation.
Life had plans, to take her a step farther,
In those 10 days, her body ailed,
That child's life was about to change.

Suddenly, that day, she left the world,
Leaving her alone, sobbing and questioning,
The world had taken a pause,
Time was running, and she was in chaos.

She taught me to fight,
She taught me to survive,
But a lesson left unlearned,
How resilient will I have to be?
When you no longer hold me back from behind...

The friend I met,
Her life has forever changed.
